Course Overview:
This course focuses on the critical aspects of infection prevention in dental settings. Similar to how diners seek a food safety grade in a restaurant, patients deserve assurance about infection prevention. Baristas undergo food safety training; likewise, dental professionals must be equipped to handle infectious risks.
The course will cover CDC inspection guidelines and essential topics to maintain a safe environment. By the end of the course, dental professionals will be well- versed in infection prevention measures and will be better equipped to provide their patients with a sense of security regarding their dental care.
Course Objectives:
UNDERSTAND STANDARD PRECAUTIONS PROTOCOLS:
Participants will learn and comprehend the necessary protocols for Standard Precautions, which form the foundation of infection prevention in dental practices. This includes proper hand hygiene, personal protective equipment (PPE) usage, and safe handling of sharp instruments.
EXPLORE THE HIERARCHY OF CONTROLS:
Participants will review the Hierarchy of Controls, a systematic approach to minimizing infection risks. This includes engineering controls, administrative controls, and work practice controls, enabling dental professionals to implement effective preventive measures.
REVIEW OPERATORY TURNOVER AND STERILIZATION PRACTICES:
Participants will gain insights into the importance of operative turnover and sterilization practices. Understanding the correct procedures for disinfection and sterilization of instruments and surfaces will ensure a clean and safe treatment environment for each patient
IMPLEMENT TESTING, SHOCKING, AND TREATING DENTAL UNIT WATERLINES:
Participants will learn how to integrate regular testing, shocking, and treating of dental unit waterlines into their practice. Maintaining clean water lines is crucial in preventing the growth and transmission of harmful microorganisms during dental procedures.
