Overview: Original Release Date: 9/1/2022 Expiration Date: 9/1/2025 CDE: 2 hours AGD Subject Code: 750 - Special Patient Care The brain is the most complex organ in the body. It controls thought, memory, emotion, touch, motor skills, vision, breathing, temperature, hunger and every process that regulates the body. Without an adequately functioning brain people become a shell of a human. Environment, lifestyle choices and genetics are directly correlated with brain health. What is not being taught is how making choices and taking action can assist with the maintenance of brain function, as well as increase quality of life, health span and longevity. As the medical professional who likely sees and spends the greatest amount of time with patients, dental hygienists are perfectly positioned to share this information. In fact, hygienists have an obligation to provide information regarding the causation relationship poor oral health has to brain health. By sharing the concepts learned in this course with patients, family and friends and the practicing brain maintenance themselves, hygienists can have a profound effect on the reduction of the number of people who suffer from cognitive decline. It’s possible. Angie is excited to share this life changing information with you! Come feel her passion, be inspired, have some fun and likely walk away feeling a smidge better than you did before the class! Objectives:

Collaboration and oral-systemic health is a growing topic many have become passionate about within the past decade. It is due to witnessing countless patients going from desperation to giving up, discovering why they feel so horrible to ridding their aching bodies of pain and stress. It is the greatest gift a patient can receive and the greatest reward for the healthcare providers that worked together to discover the root cause of inflammation. The WHO defines health as 'a state of complete physical, mental and social wellbeing and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.' In the United States, roughly 2.7% of the healthcare expenditure is spent on prevention, while at the same time, disease statistics continue to climb. Metabolic Health, or their lack of it, is leading the cause of disease within our country. Oral disease is closely connected to many leading causes, such as cardiovascular disease, Alzheimer's, and autoimmune diseases such as Rheumatoid Arthritis, and the list continues to grow. In decades, today is the most tumultuous and exciting time for change within healthcare. It is undeniable that learning to work together between dental and medical professions is the most authentic opportunity to discover the root cause of inflammation and help our patients discover what it feels like to be healthy and free of disease. Discover the science behind oral and systemic health. Throughout this course, discover how medical and dental healthcare providers work together to change disease disparities within our country by collaborating and health coaching patients to health.
