From assessment to instrumentation, we are being asked to do more in our hygiene appointments.  Because of this, adopting artificial intelligence (AI) into our daily practice may be the answer to gaining  time back without compromising care. With the help of AI, we can more efficiently document thorough clinical notes as well as the periodontal assessment. The periodontal assessment is more than just probe depths; it includes mobility, furcations, clinical attachment levels, bleeding and suppuration. With the help of AI, we can chart these quickly and translate this data into a comprehensive diagnosis on the status of the periodontium.  Once we know the diagnosis, we can then determine the correct instruments to use for areas of health and disease. Come discuss how the implementation of AI into your practice can help you improve your diagnosis and therefore instrument choices. A detailed periodontal assessment aids us in choosing the right instruments to use from root and crown surfaces, to furcations and heavy calculus deposits.
 
OBJECTIVES
Discuss how artificial intelligence can aid in developing the dental hygiene diagnosis.
Identify instruments for documented clinical attachment loss for periodontal AAP stages 1-4.
Identify instruments for documented furcations.

Shelley Brown, MED, RDH,  has been in the dental industry since 2001. She is an Adjunct Professor at the Utah College of Dental Hygiene, owns and runs a mobile dental practice called Homebound Smiles, serving a population that rarely has access to a dental professional. She loves riding around town on her cargo bike with her 4 boys.

Jessica, Shelley and Melia are 3 educators and clinicians that were inspired to start Hygiene Edge, an online education platform.
