09:30 AM - 11:30 AM CT | IN-PERSON - The Saliva Chronicles | 6.00
Overview: Anne Guignon's - The Saliva Chronicles is a 3-Part Series SESSION 1 will be REQUIRED for participants to complete online PRIOR TO ANNUAL SESSION. Following registration you will be sent to register online for SESSION 1. SESSIONS 2 & 3 will take place in person at Annual Session or be available through the VIRTUAL Annual Session. SESSION 1 (THIS COURSE IS TAKEN ONLINE BEFORE ANNUAL SESSION BEGINS - IN YOUR OWN TIME)
Muddy flooding and sinkholes - the difference between caries and erosive tooth wear All oral conditions that damage or destroy tooth hard structure simply can’t be classified as caries. Caries is only one culprit. Erosion also plays an increasing role in tooth destruction. Both situations can be stopped if identified early enough. And in the case of caries, damage can be reversed if there is still sufficient structural integrity.
SESSION 2 Do you have patients who have new decay at every visit or struggle with dentinal hypersensitivity or burning mouth? Do you see teeth that are visibly melting away? The struggle is real. Basic salivary testing can shed a light on why patients continue to have disease. Emerging diagnostic testing can add more pieces to the puzzle. Are you ready to incorporate testing, secure more accurate diagnostic data, and gain a higher case acceptance by helping patients finally achieving health through homeostasis?
SESSION 3 It’s so easy to want a simple, one-size-fits all solution when it comes to oral disease. What works for one, simply not appeal to or work for another. And what is the goal? Are you trying to create a comfortable mouth feel, adjust the oral pH level, stimulate saliva, remineralize damaged tooth structure, reduce dentinal hypersensitivity, or foster the growth of healthy oral microbes? There are many products and strategies that will help achieve a wide range of goals.
Spotlight on the new canaries in the coal mine Would it surprise you to know that today’s healthcare providers are at increased risk for oral disease? Current research indicates that dehydration is the top complaint when wearing multiple layers of PPE all day long. No one wants to spend their day off in the dental chair dealing with a caries outbreak or worse yet, ending up in an emergency room after passing out at work.

04:15 PM - 05:15 PM CT | IN-PERSON Student Session - Seven Strategies to Strengthen Your Employment Opportunities Virtual | 1.00
Overview: Seven strategies to strengthen your employment opportunities
Decades ago, potential employees were given an offer, and very little negotiation ever took place regarding duties, pay, or benefits. Now the world is upside down. For the first time in over thirty years, there is an abundance of practice opportunities. The glut in the marketplace is gone, and we are freer than ever to find a dental home that meshes with our personal needs and practice philosophy. It’s not about being greedy, but rather a time to closely examine our professional roles in the business of dentistry.

09:15 AM - 12:15 PM CT | IN-PERSON - Dementia and Other Dilemmas of Our Aging Population | 3.00
Overview: The increase in the number of older adults in the US, coupled with an effort to keep people in
their homes and community instead of long-term care facilities will likely affect dental practices. The aging
client will have an increased risk of chronic and oral health conditions. This is especially true with the
significant increase with the prevalence of cognitive impairment including Alzheimer’s Disease.
In the early and even mid-stages of cognitive impairment, a person may still seek dental care on their own
and in the late stages may still need dental care. The reality that the dental hygienist will encounter people
with dementia in a dental practice is here and the impact on the person with impairment’s ability to legally
consent to any dental treatment or effectively comply with oral hygiene instructions is of concern. This
presentation is based on evidence-based research protocols that dental offices can use to effectively and
safely treat the multiple oral health complexities of the aging population.
