Lasers have been used in dental practices
for years, however formal education for hygienists has been limited. Because of
this, many hygienists are hesitant to utilize dental lasers. We’re missing
opportunities to provide our patients with improved outcomes and a higher level
of care.
In
this content-rich, engaging presentation, Nicole Fortune, RDH shares an
overview of laser physics, clinical updates/research, and common applications.
Participants will differentiate which laser-assisted procedures can improve
patient treatment outcomes. Learn when to recommend and utilize those
procedures through case studies and analysis of visuals. Recognize the
controversy regarding the utilization of lasers near dental implants and learn
when/how to reduce the potential risk. Review standard safety measures for
keeping your practice within the guidelines of regulatory body requirements.

providing non-surgical and preventative care.
Nicole believes the best patient care happens when combining her dental
hygiene knowledge with the latest technology. She is a recognized expert in training dental hygienists in areas
of periodontics, including peri-implantitis. Nicole has delivered multiple
educational presentations to Vermont Technical College Dental Hygiene School, University
of Michigan’s Ramfjord Symposium, The National Osteology Foundation, RDH Under
One Roof and The Institute for Dental Implant Awareness, as well as numerous
other clubs and professional groups across the country. Nicole
holds certifications for various laser wavelengths from the Academy of Laser
Dentistry. She is a member of several professional organizations including, the
American Academy for Oral Systemic Health, Vermont & American Dental
Hygiene Association and the National Speakers Association. Nicole
is a Key Opinion Leader with the Dental Codeology Consortium. She is currently the only dental professional
in Vermont who is certified in periodontal endoscopy. She was awarded Dental
Hygienist of the Year for 2017 in Vermont. Nicole earned her hygiene
degree and her BA from the University of Vermont. She also holds a MBA from
Champlain College.

Don\'t Fly Blind: Periodontal Endoscopy in
the Modern Dental Practice

New and
emerging technologies and best practices for treating patients with moderate to
advanced periodontal and peri-implant diseases are literally opening our eyes
to the calculus and biofilm we previously had to remove blindly.
Periodontal
endoscopy offers
dentists and patients non-surgical, predictable treatment solutions. The
periodontal endoscope offers direct visual access to the root surface within
the periodontal pocket without a surgical flap.
This course
demonstrates the role of periodontal endoscopy and its benefits. Participants
will analyze the processes and results of traditional pocket reduction surgery
compared to non-surgical endoscope treatment. We will explore advanced
diagnostics via magnified sub-gingival visualization which allows clinicians to
identify periodontal and peri-implant etiologies and potential complications
with healing. Explore adjunctive therapies - such as lasers and enamel matrix
protein - that create an ideal environment for gingival attachment and in some
cases, bone regeneration

Overview:
Infection Control for the Dental Professional

Dental healthcare providers (DHCP) have a professional responsibility to implement proper infection control practices. Federal and state standards and guidance protect clinician and patients against the transmission of potentially infectious agents. This course will provide a comprehensive review of clinical compliance as it relates to the regulations established by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and governed by state professional licensing boards. The speaker will detail the mandatory requirements dental offices must perform in order to be fully compliant, including hand hygiene, waterline asepsis, sterilization and disinfection and standard precautions. While risk has also been an inherent component in the practice of dentistry, the prevalence of Covid-19 infection throughout the world has heightened our awareness of specific infection control measures, such as respiratory hygiene., environmental infection control and personal protective equipment. This course will acknowledge and discuss the additional challenges associated with treating patients during a public health pandemic. Learning Objectives: - List and define important terms in infection control.
- Understand the CDC\'s Guidelines for Infection Control in the Dental Setting and its implementation in clinical practice.
- List standard precaution measures mandated by state and federal guidelines.
- Explain the responsibility of dental healthcare professionals to adhere to scientifically accepted principles and practices of infection control.
- Define the chain of infection and present strategies for prevention and control of pathogens.
- Demonstrate the proper use of infection control principles and practices for cleaning, disinfection and sterilization in dental healthcare settings.

 Erin Kierce RDH, BA, MS, MPH is the chief compliance officer for New England Family Dentistry in Marlborough, Massachusetts and Adjunct Faculty of Graduate studies at MCPHS , University in Boston, Massachusetts. After twelve years of practicing dental hygiene ,Erin has devoted her career to clinical compliance, safety and risk management. She has developed, implemented and maintained compliance and safety systems for multiple dental offices of varying specialties throughout New England including establishing standards and policies pertaining to regulatory requirements. Erin has presented continuing education courses in the areas of pediatric oral health, chronic diease management, maternal oral and obstetrical health, clinical compliance, documentation and record-keeping, infection control and OSHA and quality assurance. Overview:
The
Future of Dentistry: How Artificial Intelligence Will Transform Patient Care Friday,

Artificial
Intelligence (AI) and cognitive computing are predicted to transform
healthcare. Its capabilities will empower patients, improve access to care, and
assist providers in disease diagnosis, treatment, and management, ultimately
improving health outcomes and reducing treatment costs. In dentistry, AI can
support risk assessment, improve patient literacy, and enhance treatment
planning and acceptance through radiographic visualization and interpretation of disease.
While dental professionals understand patient care and operational management,
currently, knowledge and understanding about AI and its function in dentistry
is not widespread.
This course will review the ways in which AI can
impact dentistry, including improving access to care and health literacy as
well as standardizing the approach to disease management. Content will also
include a discussion of how AI quantification can assist
dentists with monitoring longitudinal outcomes for patients and enhancing
practice goals. The speakers will also demonstrate the
capabilities of AI and the multitude of potential applications of the software.

Christopher Balaban DMD, MSc. is a practicing dentist in Boston, MA and serves as clinical Director for
Overjet - the industry leader in dental artificial intelligence. Dr. Balaban holds a Master’s Degree
in Biomedical Science, and graduated Summa Cum Laude from Boston University’s Goldman
School of Dental Medicine, where he currently holds a faculty position in the department of
general dentistry as a Clinical Instructor. He is a member of the National Dental Honors Society,
Omicron Kappa Upsilon, the ADA and MDS. His passion for both dentistry and technology came
