Session 1: A Look at Women, Gender, and Health presented by Abigail Brooks, PhD, and Jessica Mulligan PhD
This session will explore women’s health issues in the U.S. today and how women in Rhode Island fare. Inequities in women’s health outcomes will be approached through an intersectional lens that also considers race/ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and sexuality.
 
After completing the Session, participants will:
    - Gain familiarity with how women's health is situated within, and informed by, broader systems and patterns of gender in economy, politics, family, society, and culture.
    - Be introduced to an intersectional perspective for studying women’s health that also considers race/ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and sexuality.
    - Learn about specific health issues impacting women in the United States today, with an emphasis on access to coverage and care.
    - Explore leading proposals for addressing health inequities that impact women.


Session 2: Women's Oral Health - Current Status presented by Namita Khandewal, BDS, MS
This presentation will highlight key contributors to women’s oral health today and will review relevant literature on women’s health challenges and its effect on health equity as a whole. Lastly, learn how an integrated model of care can help to address some of the most critical issues impacting women’s oral health.
After completing the Session, participants will understand:

    - The determinants of oral health care in women and its implications on health equity.

    - An integrated interdisciplinary model for addressing issues related to women's oral health.


Session 3: Emerging Women's Health Research presented by Brenda Heaton, MPH, PhD
This session will tie everything together. Participants will be introduced to some of the cutting-edge research and resent ongoing studies in women's health from a sociological perspective.

After completing the Session, participants will:

    - Develop an appreciation for the multifactorial and complex influences surrounding the oral health of women.

    - Describe the emerging research and research perspectives surrounding the oral health of women.
