What are we REALLY looking for? Oral Pathology Cases and Concepts
4.00
Overview:
This course is an overview of oral pathologic conditions
from Ms. Lukes’ own personal collection of lesion images accumulated over 37
years as a dental hygienist and a 28-year teaching career. Etiology, clinical
appearance and treatment options are included for each lesion/condition,
highlighting the assessment phase of the process of care. The course includes
both common and uncommon conditions, many of which are signs of systemic
disease, emphasized in a discussion about interdisciplinary collaboration with
other health professionals. Comparison images for inclusion in differential
diagnoses will also be presented encouraging dental professionals to utilize
all patient information when analyzing lesions. This course can serve as an
excellent update for seasoned hygienists/dentists or a relevant review for new
graduates entering the field.

Infection Control: When you absolutely do not want to "Go Viral"
3.00
Overview:
To ensure our patients aren’t exposed to viruses, bacteria,
and protozoa, dental professionals need to understand more than what to do and
what not to do; they also need to understand why. In this lively, engaging
course, Katrina takes participants on a historical journey of social norms
which lead to infectious diseases. We’ll trace the evolution and spread of disease
from patient zero outward, showing the microbiological, immunological, and
human impacts of the chain of infection.Examine the infection control process and its application in ensuring
the practice is up to date with current recommendations. A review of case
studies will bring to life real-world infection control breaches. Each member
of the team will understand their role in keeping patients safe through
compliance with standard precautions.

The Dental Professional's Role in Human Trafficking
4.00
Overview:
Known as the most current form of slavery, human trafficking
has over 45 million victims worldwide. As dental professionals, we are tasked
with the responsibility of safeguarding our patient’s lives through education
of the oral-systemic link. But there’s another link to their well-being that is
sometimes ignored and too often missed in the signs of abuse and human
trafficking. We can help protect and save lives from these terrible acts
against humanity as we encounter victims in the routine discharge of our duties
as oral health care providers. This interactive course will tackle challenging
topics and provide heart-felt examples of victims and strategies to help
identify warning signs of trafficking. By the end, participants will see the
world differently, be prepared to identify victims, and be equipped with
resources for human trafficking reporting.Special Guest Cascade County Sheriff Jesse Slaughter will contribute to
the presentation with local statistics, insight, as well as prevention and
safety tips.
