Course
Overview The goal of
this course is for you, as a mandated reporter in Pennsylvania to gain an
understanding of your duty to recognize and report suspected child abuse as
outlined in the Pennsylvania Child Protective Services Law (CPSL). Course
Objectives •
Understand
your mandated roles and responsibilities as outlined in the CPSL. •
Recognize
the categories and indicators of child abuse and neglect. •
Understand
the mandated reporting procedures for suspected child abuse.

ways you can help ensure the safety of children in Pennsylvania as a Healthcare Professional **This course has been approved by the PA Department of Human Services (DHS) and the Department of State (DOS) and fulfills the Act 31 requirements for all PA Licensed Professionals. ABOUT THE SPEAKER Melissa Lucarelli, BS, RDH, PHDHP: Melissa is
a passionate and dedicated Dental Hygienist residing in Beaver County,
Pennsylvania. As an active member of the
Pennsylvania Dental Hygienists' Association (PDHA), Melissa serves as the State
Online CE Registration Chair. In 2002,
she achieved her bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences from Lock Haven
University of Pennsylvania. She is a
2005 graduate of Westmoreland County Community College with an associate degree
in Dental Hygiene and after 10 years of practicing clinical hygiene, is the
Director of Clinical Operations for a pediatric dental group based in
Pittsburgh. Melissa
received her Public Health Dental Hygiene Practitioner license in 2017. As one of the top 24 ADHA hygienists selected
in the country, Melissa completed the Unleashing Your Potential (UYP)
leadership program in 2018. Melissa was
a certified trainer of ‘Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse: Mandated Reporting for Health Professional’
through the Pennsylvania Family Support Alliance, who developed the first state-approved curriculum to train mandated reporters in how
to recognize and report child abuse in Pennsylvania.
In 2021, Melissa developed an up-to-date, state-approved curriculum for
PA Licensed Professionals that satisfies the Act 31 requirement for Mandated
Reporters.
