Description: Caries is the most chronic disease globally with 90% of the world’s population affected. Traditional approaches of drill, fill, and oral hygiene instruction are not working. Using SDF to help arrest carious lesions has safely been implemented around the world for over 50 years. Now there is a great prevention aspect to the use of SDF and the combination of silver diamine fluoride and glass ionomer cements together offers great options for a wide array of situations; this newer combination is called SMART. Still there are dentists who are not ready to adopt the use of SDF and/or glass ionomers in their practice even with evidence-based research and studies proving its effectiveness.
Learning Objectives:
- Explain the various uses for SDF and SMART, how to utilize them, and the science of SDF and glass ionomer cements.
- Be able to create an informed consent form for patients and caregivers to understand the benefits and post-op instructions
- Learn techniques to help get your dentist on board for using SDF.
