‘RECOGNIZING AND REPORTING CHILD ABUSE:

MANDATED REPORTING FOR HEALTH PROFESSIONALS’

 

LIMITED ATTENDANCE

This course has been approved by the PA Department of Human Services and Department of State to meet mandated reporting (Act 31) license requirements and is limited to 50 attendees unless otherwise approved.

 

Overview:

The goal of this course, developed by the Pennsylvania Family Support Alliance, is to gain an understanding of your role as mandated reporters in meeting your legal obligations in the area of child protection as per the Child Protective Services Law (CPSL). Attendees will be able to describe and apply current information on the CPSL, recognize elements and indicators of child abuse and neglect, and demonstrate reporting procedures.

 

Objectives:
Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:

  • describe and apply current information on the PA Child Protective Services Law
  • review the role and responsibilities of the Child Protective Services System
  • identify elements and indicators of child abuse
  • review child abuse reporting procedures
  • describe the actions taken by the county agency in response to reports of child abuse
  • list the status determinations that are assigned to child abuse reports

 

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Melissa Lucarelli, BS, RDH, PHDHP:  Melissa is a passionate and dedicated Dental Hygienist residing in Beaver County, Pennsylvania.  As an active member of the Pennsylvania Dental Hygienists' Association (PDHA), Melissa has served as the Southwest Component Continuing Education Chair and is currently serving as the State Annual Session Chair.  In 2002, she achieved her Bachelor’s Degree in Health Sciences from Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania.  She is a 2005 graduate of Westmoreland County Community College and after 10 years of practicing clinical hygiene, is now a Director of Clinical Operations for a Pediatric Dental Group in the Pittsburgh area.  Melissa received her Public Health Dental Hygiene Practitioner license in 2017.  As one of the top 24 ADHA hygienists selected in the country, Melissa recently completed the Unleashing Your Potential (UYP) leadership program.  Through PDHA, Melissa is a certified trainer of ‘Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse:  Mandated Reporting for Health Professional’ through the Pennsylvania Family Support Alliance, who developed the first state-approved curriculum to train mandated reporters in how to recognize and report child abuse.


 *PLEASE NOTE:  This course is an approved 3 CEU credit course, however the State Board of Dentistry only accepts 2 CEU’s

There will be a late registration fee of $10.00 after Monday, March 8, 2021 till the course date. The code to get your CE Certificate will be given at the end of the course, so you must stay on line for the entire course.
