Radiology in the dental field has long been proven beneficial, aiding in the detection of structural abnormalities and disease. However, such benefits do come with a certain level of risk, which has been gratefully reduced over time. The purpose of this course is to review general information, requirements and safety procedures necessary to provide efficient and safe radiological procedures in dentistry.  Following the presentation of this course, the dental professional will be able to identify and understand the following in regards to radiation:

Speaker: Sarah Goard, RDH, BS

Sarah Goard is a graduate of Gannon University. Here she earned her bachelor’s degree in biology, later pursing dental hygiene and earning her A.S.T. degree from Fortis Institute Erie. Since becoming a licensed hygienist in 2013, Sarah has also obtained her Public Health Dental Hygiene Practitioner license. She has primarily worked in private dental practices but has also taught at Fortis Institute, and recently joined UPMC/TLR as a community outreach coordinator. She remains an active volunteer in her community, providing services to those in need through Mom-n-PA, Sealant Saturday, and Give Kids a Smile. She is also an active member of the American Dental Hygienists' Association in which she serves as a national delegate and is currently President-Elect of the Pennsylvania Dental Hygienists' Association.
