COURSE DESCRIPTIONThe goal of this course, developed by the Pennsylvania Family Support Alliance, is to gain an understanding of your role as mandated reporters in meeting your legal obligations in the area of child protection as per the Child Protective Services Law (CPSL). Attendees will be able to describe and apply current information on the CPSL, recognize elements and indicators of child abuse and neglect, and demonstrate reporting procedures.

  
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
 
Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:
  • Describe and apply current information on the PA Child Protective Services Law
  • Review the role and responsibilities of the Child Protective Services System
  • Identify elements and indicators of child abuse
  • Review child abuse reporting procedures
  • Describe the actions taken by the county agency in response to reports of child abuse
  • List the status determinations that are assigned to child abuse reports
  
ABOUT THE SPEAKERS: 


Angela Yorina, RDH, MS, PHDHP received her MS from Misercordia University in Dallas, PA.  Angie implemented a dental clinic at The Hope Center in Luzurne, PA and was the recipient of the PDHA Community Dental Health Award in 2008.  She also speaks on special needs patients, communication, toothpastes and polishing.

Lisandra Maisonet, RDH, BS, PHDHP, EFDA, CDA received her AAS degree in Dental Hygiene from Montgomery County Community College and a BS degree from PA College of Technology.  She is enrolled in a Master's Program in Adult Education at Penn State University.  Further, she is certified as an Expanded Functions Dental Assistant and is an adjunct Faculty in the Dental Hygiene Program at Montgomery County Community College.  As a Director of Operations/Consultant for her current employer, Lisa works with 20 practices to implement systems that are geared towards prevention.  She provides her team with training opportunities that allow them to implement new products and technologies in enhancing patient care.  Although she is busy in her role, she makes it a point to jump into patient care in order to satisfy her desire to make a difference in patient's lives.  Currently, she serves as President of PDHA and loves to help push the profession of dental hygiene forward.


PLEASE NOTE: Lisa and Angela are Certified Trainers through PA Family Support Alliance (PFSA), which is an approved provider by the PA State Board of Dentistry (SBD). This course is an approved 3 CEU credit course, however the SBD only accepts 2 CEUs.
