Overview

This program will provide participants with an overview of the organ transplantation process, the pharmacology used for post organ transplant management, effective management and diagnosis of oral manifestations that may arise and the stress this puts on our patients and their families.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

  • Describe the process of organ allocation as it relates to the state of Pennsylvania.
  • List the common classifications of medications used in post transplant management.
  • Identify common side effects that may arise from commonly prescribed medications related to organ transplantation.
  • Understand the role of patient management, and home care recommendations in the pre/post transplantation process

  

ABOUT THE SPEAKER: 

Kate Karalunas, RDH, PHDHP, BSDH has been in dental hygiene for over 10 years as a clinician, educator and sales representative.  She is a graduate of St. Francis University's Master of Health Sciences program.  She works primarily in education where she focuses mainly on public health and ethics.  Kate is a published peer reviewed author with several professional dental hygiene magazine articles and is an avid volunteer with various dental events and charities in her area.
