Health and Teledentistry- The Perfect Pair: Using Telehealth
Technologies to Enhance Dental Care in your Community
Telecommunications technologies are used in every aspect of our
lives and are now being utilized to enhance dental care. The success of
teledentistry has been proven across a range of care settings and now provides
new and exciting opportunities for providers in public health, private
practice, medical/dental and other settings.
This course contains an overview of Telehealth and Teledentistry technologies
combined with practical guidance on some of the ways to best implement
teledentistry in everyday practice focusing on public health programs and
settings.
Participants will be taught real-life applications for teledentistry and learn
about a range of successful public health programs employing teledentistry
technology. They will gain useful knowledge on incorporating teledentistry into
existing workflows as well as creating new workflows to expand the hygienists
reach and provide optimal care.

ABOUT
THE SPEAKER: Eden Ivie, RDH, PHDHP, BSDH
Eden
Ivie is a dedicated dental hygienist with a strong interest in public health as
well as holistic wellness and nutrition. She maintains dental hygiene licenses
in three states and is a Public Health Dental Hygiene Practitioner in the state
of Pennsylvania. Eden has been practicing clinical dental hygiene since
graduating from San Juan College in 2004 and earned her BSDH from Northern
Arizona University in 2018.
She currently spends most of her time working as a Teledentistry Specialist for
MouthWatch where she provides training and implementation guidance for a range
of dental care models embracing teledentistry. Eden is able to use her PHDHP
license to practice in a pediatric mobile dental unit that provides preventative
care for children in Head Start Classrooms and other public health settings
utilizing teledentistry technologies.

and Facts: How vaping, medical marijuana, oil pulling, charcoal dentifrices
effect oral health Overview: Dental Hygienists are often confronted
with an increasing number of patients using e-cigarettes (vaping), medical
marijuana, oil pulling, and charcoal toothpastes. While patients may feel these
are improved alternatives, they can be unaware of the effects on oral health. This
course aims to present and empower dental professionals to educate patients on how
the use of these alternative products can affect their patient’s oral health. Objectives: Upon completion of this course,
attendees will be able to:
- Understand the usage and prevalence of e-cigarettes,
medical marijuana, oil pulling, and charcoal toothpaste;
- Appreciate the vital role Dental Hygienists play in
patient education;
- Gain evidence-based knowledge of the effects these
products have on oral health;
- Develop effective communication strategies to educate patients
on the effect these products can have on their oral health.
ABOUT THE
SPEAKER: DR. CURTIS G. DUGAS
Dr. Curtis G. Dugas completed his
undergraduate and Master’s Degree from the University of New Orleans. He received
his dental degree from the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM).
Dr. Dugas was selected for direct commissioning as Captain in the United States
Air Force. He has presented research at the Florida Dental Association, Hinman
Dental Meeting in Atlanta, GA, Academy of General Dentistry (AGD), American
Academy of Periodontology (AAP), and International Association of Dental
Research (IADR) in South Korea. He received various research awards and
scholarships including from the National Institute of Health (NIH). Dr. Dugas
currently serves as a periodontics resident at the University of Pittsburgh.
