DESCRIPTION: As dental professionals we have been screaming about the links between oral health and systemic health for decades. We are raising awareness among our patients regarding how their oral health is affecting other bodily systems and yet, we are missing likely the biggest opportunity to change the course of an epidemic. The health of the human brain is deteriorating at an alarming rate. By 2050 one person every 33 seconds will be diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease. This is expected to result in nearly 153 million people living with dementia worldwide by 2050, up from 57 million in 2019. The good news is that we can help reduce these numbers right in our own offices.
OBJECTIVES
1. Discover the path to cognitive decline.
2. Identify 3 strategies for dementia prevention.
3.Understand how the oral microbiome impacts cognitive health.
4. Discuss the role of dental professionals for brain well-being.
