Dental professionals often examine the physical aspects of wellness yet we rarely explore or discuss the mental aspects. The goal of our chamfered psyche course is to remove the taboo and face the facts.

Anxiety, pain, depression, burnout - dentistry can take a toll on our mental health. Research shows that there is a high incidence of depression and other mental health issues among dental professionals. Additionally, many dental professionals are unaware of the mental health issues our patients face. the red flags they should watch for, or how to intervene. They may not understand the psychological effects of bad teeth.

Presented in Dr. Joshua Austin's trademark comedic style, this course explores strategies for working together to improve mental health so we can be our best. Learn about the oral health and mental health connection and how to recognize triggers and warning signs. Explore and understand mental health terms, common treatments, and therapy options, as well as how and when to refer to a mental health professional. Acquire coping mechanisms and learn how to meet expectations.

Author Bio

Dr. Joshua Austin is a full-time restorative dentist in San Antonio, TX. He is also a columnist for Dental Economics magazine, focusing on dental technologies and products. The columns he writes present a fresh perspective on today's commercially driven dental scene. Following graduation from the University of Texas School of Dentistry, he worked in the department of restorative health for five years. Dr. Austin now lectures around the country about the products he has used in clinical practice, as well as digital marketing and mental health.
