Impression making has been described as an art that requires capturing the exact dimensions of the preparation, soft tissue, architecture of margins of the preparation, and the relationship of the prepared teeth to the surrounding dentition. Unfortunately, even the most experienced clinician can find impression-making daunting, frustrating, or sometimes difficult to perfect.
This course overviews the materials and techniques needed to master impression making, model trimming, and the best practices for making a custom tray.
After
the program, participants should be able to:
- Describe various impression material types: what,
when, and why to use them in various situations for impression success.
- Understand the various elements of impression
materials: viscosity, hydrophilicity, elasticity, tear strength, and
dimensional stability.
- Identify a poor impression: avoiding pulls,
tears, and bubbles.
- Explain various stone types used for dental
models.
- Employ the techniques utilized for model pouring
and trimming.
