Overview: Have you ever had a periodontally involved patient that isn’t responding to traditional treatments as well as you expected? Patients need unique treatments and products in the dental chair, just as they do at home with their homecare routines for the best possible outcomes after treatment. This course is tailored for the dental professional who’s excited to expand their expertise in periodontal care by integrating advanced adjunctive therapies like antimicrobial agents, laser therapy, and sulfonated phenolics, and exploring the latest innovations that enhance the outcomes of traditional periodontal therapy.

OBJECTIVES 

1. Discuss locally placed antibiotics, the application process, research behind placement, and situations when they should or should not be used.
2. Review current treatments and adjuncts that might not be benefiting your patients.
3. Review periodontal disease and biofilm formation processes
4. Explain the benefits of sulfonated phenolics in treatment of periodontal diseases. 
5. Review hydrogen peroxide in the use of prevention and treatment of periodontal diseases. 
6. Discuss the use of Lasers as an adjunct to periodontal therapy.
7. Review the evidence for use of air powder polishing in periodontal therapy.

Course presenters:

Shelley Brown, MEd, RDH  has been in the dental industry since 2001. She is an Adjunct Professor at the Utah College of Dental Hygiene, owns and runs a mobile dental practice called Homebound Smiles, serving a population that rarely has access to a dental professional. She loves riding her 4 young boys around on her cargo bike. 

Melia Lewis, MEd, BSDH, RDH is a proud clinical dental hygienist in Utah. She loves learning, educating, and advocating for dental hygienists to grow in their profession and serve our local communities. She speaks nationally and loves to write about teeth and create helpful dental videos. When she’s not talking about dentistry or how amazing RDHs are, she’s planning her next trip either out of the country or to a National Park or being a mom to her two-daughter girl gang and goldendoodle pup.

Processing and service fees are non-refundable for any and all cancellations with no exceptions. Refunds will only be issued if requested 8 days or more prior to the event.
