Safety at the workplace is important for all dental healthcare providers.
The dental workplace and dental procedure may expose the healthcare provider to infectious disease, hazardous material and instrument related injuries.

This course helps in outlining standard precautions and exposure control for the dental healthcare provider and provides an understanding of infectious disease spread by blood borne pathogens, bodily fluids and spatter in the dental office.

 

Learning Objective(s):

At the completion of this course, the attendee will be able to:

  1.        Be current with infection prevention and control recommendations by CDC and OSHA
  2.        Implement effective infection control measures in the dental practice
  3.        Choose appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and maintain a safe workplace environment
  4.        Understand the current vaccination recommendations for dental healthcare providers
  5. Understand common infectious diseases that may affect the dental practice
  6. Sanjay Chand, MBBS, MD

Dr. Chand currently teaches pharmacology and therapeutics in the Dental, Dental hygiene, and Nursing programs at University of Detroit Mercy and participates in clinical teaching and chairside therapeutics for dental students.  He also teaches the Nurse Anesthesia and Physician assistant programs at the University of Detroit Mercy’s McNichols campus.  Dr. Chand earned his M.D. in Medicine from the Christian Medical College and Hospital (India) where he specialized in Clinical Pharmacology.  Dr. Chand is director of Infection Control and Safety is responsible for infection control policies and their implementation in accordance with CDC guidelines.
