Overview:

Cancer therapy, while crucial in the fight against cancer, often brings a range of challenging side effects that can impact a patient\'s quality of life. When patients, friends, or family receive cancer therapies we want to provide oral health support before, during and after treatment. This course offers a unique perspective from a dental hygienist, who shares first-hand experience on preventing and managing the vast amount of possible side effects during cancer therapies such as surgeries, radiation, and chemotherapy. This course is a comprehensive course designed to empower patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively support and manage these side effects.

Learning Objectives: 

● Identify and describe the most common side effects associated with various cancer therapies. 

● Discuss options for prevention or reduction of oral mucositis 

● Identify ways to mitigate opportunistic infections. 

● Explore the role of nutrition in managing side effects and maintaining overall health during treatment. ● Provide therapeutic resources to patients and guardians through cancer therapy


Laraine Hartle, BSDH, RDH is seasoned in dentistry with over 13 years of experience as a hygienist and dental hygiene educator. Her career is distinguished by her commitment to not only maintaining oral health but teaching and educating others about the oral-systemic connection. She works as a clinical instructor at Utah College of Dental Hygiene. Laraine\'s deep understanding of the oral-systemic health connection drives her mission to educate her patients and students about the importance of oral health as a critical component of overall wellness. She has recently ventured into entrepreneurship and now co-owns Glam Studio Pros, a professional teeth whitening and piercing studio. Cancellation Policy: 

Processing and service fees are non-refundable for any and all cancellations with no exceptions. Refunds will only be issued if requested 8 days or more prior to the event. No refunds will be given within 7 days of the event unless the event is canceled by CE Zoom, or unforeseen acts of God, in which we will try and reschedule the event prior to issuing a full refund, minus any processing fees. Please note, if this is a live-streamed event, you must have a good internet connection and refunds will not be issued due to poor connection or courses not counting for CE credit.
