Course Overview:

Untreated malocclusions and compromised airways can decrease quality of life, lifespan and result in significant orofacial complications. Our duty as providers is to recognize when a patient may have an abnormal occlusion and breathing pattern. A healthy smile is perceived by others as more esthetic, both externally and intraorally. We have an incredible opportunity to identify patients in need of our treatment and advocacy in the hygiene chair. Together, we can build better breathers and bigger smiles with proper screening protocols, multidisciplinary communication and appropriate treatment selections.

Course Objectives:

  1. Understand the long-term consequences of an untreated malocclusion and compromised airway
  2. Define a healthy airway and occlusion
  3. Understand how esthetics follow a healthy occlusion and airway
  4. Incorporate an airway-focused screening during hygiene appointments
  5. Select treatment modalities for an airway-focused result
