“IT’S A STAGE, IT’S A GRADE, AND NOW WE HAVE BECOME EXPERTS AT PERIODONTAL CLASSIFICATION!”
3.00
Overview:
The AAP Classification System that
rolled out in 2018 represents a multi-dimensional staging and grading framework
for periodontitis and implant disease status. This course will examine the
concepts of staging and grading to classify each patient by complexity of case
management, likelihood of less predictable response to therapy, and potential
for periodontitis development.
A hallmark feature of the updated
system brings opportunities for more case-specific patient care. The need for
calibration and clinician alignment with the new classification system along
with appropriate treatment and homecare recommendations will be discussed.
Learning Objectives:
• Discuss
staging and grading for periodontal disease and how it will benefit patient
care and management.
• Distinguish
between a periodontal diagnosis and periodontal classification.
• Identify
the key characteristics that underline your determination of
o Stage
I-IV
o Grading
A through C
• With
Case studies, practice implementation of ‘Staging’ and ‘Grading’ using new
guidelines.
• Identify
patients who may benefit from adjunctive strategies of disease management and
overall reduction of bioburden and behavioral risks.
• Develop
individualized homecare regimens utilizing staging and grading to motivate and
encourage patients to improve their oral health

“The Mystique in Changing Patient Behavior: Applying tips in Motivational Interviewing!
3.00
Overview:
The
concept of “motivational interviewing,” - now recognized in oral healthcare as
becoming the best practice in “guiding” our patients in making positive changes
in their health and lifestyle behaviors. By eliminating those prior tactics of
judging or controlling our patients, we are now embracing a more effective
“patient-centered approach to coaching.
Our
patients will only make positive changes if they can find the value of the
change as well as making choices on their own.
During
this program, the speaker will walk through the key principles that underscore
the process of using motivational interviewing techniques in our workplace.
Several video demonstrations will point out deliberate corrections in a
one-on-one dialog between you, the healthcare provider, and your client.
Learning
Objectives:
·Discuss and apply the four guiding
principles that underscore “motivational interviewing.”
·Discuss the stages in motivational
interviewing using the concepts of D.A.R.N.
·Recognizing and applying “open-ended”
questioning skills to develop a deeper process of dialog and learning more
about patient’s values and behaviors.
·Define ambivalence and how
we can coach our patients to recognize the obstacles that prevent them from
making sound behavior changes.
·Observe the video demonstrations
during patient interactions to make future corrections in our conversations.

development of colon cancer. This course will examine the emerging evidence on
how the oral microbiome and subsequent inflammation play a role in
gastrointestinal health.
Topics:
• P. gingivitis
• Inflammation and immune function
• Dysbiosis
• Inflammatory bowel diseases
• Colon cancer
Learning objectives:
• Understand how p.gingivalis may contribute to a
dysbiotic gut microbiota
• Explain how oral inflammation plays a role in
worsening Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis
• Evaluate the research linking periodontitis to colon
cancer and pancreatic cancer
• Discuss the role periodontal therapy and good oral
hygiene may have on gastrointestinal health.

Medical - Dental Integration: Claim Your Seat at the Healthcare Table
3.00
Overview:
The integration of medicine and dentistry is an exciting development in modern healthcare. While medical-dental integration was once a dream among healthcare visionaries, it is now a tangible reality. This is due in large part to the COVID-19 pandemic, which has accelerated change and made many Americans aware of the oral-systemic link for the first time. This course will look at how dental professionals can be a part of this historical medical-dental transition.
Through a dynamic discussion, a number of impactful medical procedures for dental professionals will be presented. These include: taking thorough health histories, administering vaccines, testing HbA1c levels, measuring blood pressure, performing oral cancer screenings, and helping patients with nutritional choices.
Dental solutions for medical providers will also be explored. These include: the use of intraoral cameras, referring via teledentistry, providing oral health recommendations, applying fluoride treatments, and performing oral cancer screenings. The overall result is the closing of long standing gaps in American healthcare, with dental professionals having the chance to improve overall patient care in ways never before possible.
Learning Objectives:
Understand how access-to-care and oral health disparities in America are being overcome
Recognize the role of dental providers as integral members of the medical healthcare team
Develop strategies to bring medical tools into a dental practice
Find ways to use teledentistry for overall patient health.

Is the standard of care that we learned in school enough? How can we better educate patients on the value of advanced treatment?
There is more to dentistry than cleaning teeth and filling cavities. Even the general public is aware the mouth is connected to the rest of the body. Is the standard of care we learned in school enough? Staying up to date with the latest innovations can be a challenge for healthcare providers who must prioritize both the quality of care provided to their patients and their own well-being.
In this course, participants will assess new technologies to enhance clinical care and optimize outcomes. Learn how to explain the advantages of these new innovations to both patients and team members, resulting in greater buy-in and implementation in the practice. It is equally important to prioritize our own well-being as healthcare providers. Participants will learn practical methods for managing burnout and stress. Explore how our mindset, behaviors, and passions are interconnected and affect our ability to serve patients more effectively.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
Identify your passions and understand how they can align with personal and professional goals
Understand the importance of mindset and how it impacts our thoughts, behaviors, and ultimately our success
Evaluate new innovations which elevate clinical care Amanda Hill, BSDH, is an enthusiastic speaker, innovative consultant, and an award winning author. Learning the Latest Prevention And Non-Invasive Strategies For Healthier Patient Outcome
3.00
Overview:
Through this course, attendees will understand the
importance of Caries Risk Assessments and how to appropriately identify a
patient as low risk (D0601), moderate risk (D0602) or high risk (D0603) for
caries. Much of the population is classified as moderate to high-risk for
caries (Domejean, S. et al, 2011). Therefore, we will discuss CAMBRA principles
and ADA evidence-based recommendations, to identify the best in-office and
at-home treatment options. When following the JADA 2013 updated Fluoride
recommendations, patients under 6, ages 6-18, and those with adult root caries,
there is a benefit of prescription-strength, home-use (0.5 percent fluoride)
gel or paste application twice daily for caries prevention. Writing a
prescription seems like a solution, however, research has demonstrated that
pharmacies often have limited inventories on hand, few flavor options, few (if
any) special need formulations (dry mouth, SLS free, sensitivity), and
packaging rarely aligns with the patients recall schedule. Through this course,
you will learn how to adequately prescribe products you trust to your patients
and learn how to safely ensure these products get into your patient’s hands. We
will also discuss chairside, preventive interventions including Fluoride
Varnish, Silver Diamine Fluoride, and Povidone Iodine to both arrest active
decay (D1354) and prevent decay (D1355) in patients with an increased risk for
developing decay.
Learning objectives:
Understand and review the types and rationale of non-invasive adjunct therapies
Review the evidence-based literature to assess the methodology of non-invasive therapies and the comparable methods
Cambra classification, assessments and tools with ADA codes respectively
Review the scientific literature on Fluoride, SDF, Sealants and other adjunct preventive services
Learn the methods for communicating risk factors, treatments and recommendations with Patient Centered Communication
Assisting hygienists to identify their patient's risk factors and the tools to customize their recommendations, a streamlined approach.
Reset the thinking to break through resistance and limitation changing the status quo and open up greater potential in the OP.
Uncovering the use in SDF beyond scope and how its profitable for clinicians and patients.

Dental healthcare providers (DHCP) have a professional responsibility to implement and maintain proper infection control practices. Federal and state standards and guidance protect clinicians and patients against the transmission of potentially infectious agents. This course will provide a comprehensive review of clinical compliance as it relates to the regulations established by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and governed by state professional licensing boards. The speaker will detail the mandatory requirements dental offices must perform in order to be fully compliant, including hand hygiene, waterline asepsis, sterilization and disinfection, and standard precautions.
While risk has also been an inherent component in the practice of dentistry, the prevalence of COVID-19 infection throughout the world has heightened our awareness of specific infection control measures, such as respiratory hygiene, environmental infection control, and personal protective equipment. This course will acknowledge and discuss the additional challenges associated with treating patients during a public heath pandemic.
Learning Objectives:
List and define important terms in infection control
Understand the CDC’s Guidelines for Infection Control in the Dental Setting and its implementation in clinical practice
List standard precaution measures mandated by state and federal guidelines
Explain the responsibility of dental healthcare professionals to adhere to scientifically accepted principles and practices of infection control
Define the chain of infection and present strategies for prevention and control of pathogens
Demonstrate the proper use of infection control principles and practices for cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization in dental healthcare settings
Identify the principles and practices designed to identify, manage, and prevent infectious and communicable diseases, including bloodborne pathogens, in dental healthcare workers
List and describe appropriate PPE for DHCP
Describe correct hand hygiene procedures
Assess options for optimal environmental asepsis
Determine strategies to treat and maintain dental unit waterlines
Identify the correct sterilization techniques for non-, semi- and critical instruments, devices, and surfaces
Understand additional considerations for treating patients during the COVID-19 pandemic.
