Overview: FIRST SESSION - THE 411 ON D4346: An Interactive Program on Oral Inflammation Despite our best efforts, highly prevalent gingivitis cases continue to increase, unpacking key research linking gingival inflammation to increased risk in both chronic and acute local and systemic disease. With every layer of research comes a renewed validation in the importance of inflammatory mitigation and thus calls upon the dental community to rise in meeting the increased demands for stringent gingivitis management protocols. However, as gingivitis cases dramatically increase across the United States, so do the percentages of preventive D1110 procedural codes. As a result, the ‘old normal’ continues to thrive in the face of patients questioning treatment beyond the ‘free cleaning’, and dentistry has quickly learned that insurance denials were resiliently ‘virus-proof’ as third-party payor requests for delivering substandard levels of care continue to ‘plague’ dental practices across the United States. Join periodontal hygienist Katrina Sanders as she delivers an interactive program discussing the 4-1-1 on current trends around addressing active gingivitis via the D4346 procedural code, as well as optimal ways to move away from excessive use of the D1110 in an effort to improve patient understanding, acceptance and ultimately inflammation-free health. Learning Objectives: Explore the prevalence and scope of oral inflammation in the 21st Century Identify key indicators of reversible gingivitis and irreversible periodontitis Curate transitional procedures and verbiage to move patients into advanced treatment modalities Rehearse key verbiage in discussing inflammation, infection and the oral-systemic link Discuss critical procedural components necessary for integrating the D4346 code successfully THIRD SESSION - GETTING THEM TO A.S.K. FOR TREATMENT: A Periodontal Case Acceptance Program We see patients in a perceived state of health. Despite the unending research around the prevalence of oral disease, dental providers are met with a myriad of challenges when it comes to optimized case acceptance for advanced dental treatment. These challenges are often barriers to upholding fundamental educational principles, connecting patients to their value system and dental IQ, to name a few. The complication: these challenges are getting in the way of patients receiving the optimal treatment and level of care they need, it is affecting the metrics of the dental practice, and most concerning: oral disease prevalence continues to soar. Using the “Assessment – Strategy – Knowledge” technique, learn how you can achieve high level treatment case acceptance simply by changing the dialogue around dentistry and ultimately: getting them to ask you for their needed treatment! Learn about how the ASSESSMENT phase provides critical insights to develop a STRATEGY to support patients in empowering themselves to approach dental communication from a space of KNOWLEDGE aimed to optimize their complex care. Join periodontal hygienist Katrina M Sanders in this engaging and interactive program built to optimize periodontal treatment plan case acceptance. Learning Objectives: Identify the ways in which the ASSESSMENT phase within the dental hygiene process of care is the greatest educational tool for dental patients. Develop a customized STRATEGY to create unique, patient-centered and value-added conversation to drive patient involvement. Learn how to thread KNOWLEDGE into all facets of the dental hygiene process of care, providing the patient with a comprehensive awareness of their oral and systemic health.

SECOND SESSION - Don’t Assume...Making Space for Enhancing Cultural Humility for LGBTQ+ patients
The dental office is no stranger to feelings of vulnerability and anxiousness, but what if you were to add on unconscious bias and stigma to the place where you need to seek treatment? There is a higher chance that you wouldn’t seek treatment! This is what we hope to learn about with treating the LGBTQ community and why they are considered a vulnerable population. With our current culture of division, it’s more important than ever for dental professionals to use their platform filled with opportunities to foster relationships and build trust with their patients so they get the best care possible.
Learning Objectives:
Identify familiar terms used by the LGBTQ+ community.
Recognize your unconscious bias and increase your emotional intelligence.
Identify affects in the mouth for queer people.
Modify strategies to enhance cultural humility within your office.
