Overview: Elder abuse affects 1.5 million American older adults and spans all races, genders, and socioeconomic statuses; but, only 1 in 24 suspected cases are reported. In all 50 states, health care providers are mandatory elder abuse reporters and 19 states specifically list the dental professional as mandatory reporters. However, dental professionals nationwide report a lack of knowledge and confidence assessing and reporting suspected abuse. This course provides information on red flags for elder abuse, assessments to screen for abuse, and information on where & how to report suspected cases. The course will prepare the dental provider to recognize the signs of and report suspected cases of elder abuse. Learning Objectives - Differentiate between normal aging process and signs of abuse

Overview: The Diode laser has become the most utilized laser in dentistry today especially in the hygiene department. Diode lasers are soft-tissue lasers that have many advantages over traditional surgical and therapeutic techniques including less pain, faster healing and preciseness, bacterial reduction, along with no contraindications. Some of the most commonly used Diode laser procedures in the hygiene department are Laser Bacterial Reduction (LBR), Laser Assisted Periodontal Therapy (LAPT), hemostasis, and the treatment of oral lesions (aphthous ulcers/herpetic lesions), This course will present common diode laser procedures, techniques used in the hygiene department, and how to incorporate lasers into your practice. Lynn Atkinson RDH has been a
Registered Dental Hygienist for over 30 years. She graduated from Cypress
College, California with a degree in Dental Hygiene and has been fortunate
enough to be a part of several dental teams that have incorporated state-of-the-art
technology. Her passion for utilizing technology while delivering the highest
quality of patient care keeps her practicing four days a week as the Clinical
Hygiene Director for a high-performing, patient-oriented dental practice in California.
Lynn lectures and provides clinical, hands-on training to dental
professionals on successfully incorporating lasers and other adjunctive
therapies into their protocols. For the past several years, Lynn has been a
speaker at numerous conferences across the nation, speaking on a variety of
topics. She lectures locally in addition to her hands-on courses, has authored
several published articles and has been a guest speaker on industry audio media
platforms, enjoyed nationwide.
Lynn is an active member and
participant of multiple dental associations and organizations. Lynn is a key
opinion leader for several dental manufacturers and companies as well as a
speaker and Swiss Dental Academy (SDA) trainer for US EMS Guided Biofilm
Therapy. She serves on the Board of Directors at the Academy of Laser Dentistry
as Auxiliary Chair, a member of the ALD Speakers Bureau, Education, Conference,
and Testing Committees. Lynn is the honored recipient of the ALD 2022 Leon
Goldman Clinical Excellence Award.
